For several years now we have promised to get together with our very good friend Karl Humphries for a day’s fishing.

Karl has been responsible for the resurgence of the fishing village at the Midland game fair in recent years and very kindly provided us with a platform to promote the society.

Busy schedules have not been kind until this weekend when Karl and Andy finally got together for a fantastic session on the Churnet.

An unofficial fly vs maggot competition was launched and the fish were very obliging with quality trout and grayling falling to both methods, of course the centrepin and maggot approach was always going to be difficult to beat but Karl cast his team of flies with incredible precision to land upwards of twenty five trout and grayling.

Andy’s cheating did acount for probably double the amount of fish, but cheating is cheating and disqualification was inevitable.

Hopefully our grand adventure will be included in our club of the month feature in Fly fishing and fly tying magazine.

All in all a lovely day out with fabulous company on a beautiful venue. Sincere thanks to Karl for his continuing devotion to the promotion of our beloved sport, to our own Paul Hewitt for his expert photography and Andy for making up the numbers.
