THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE CAKES
Following the best summer for over forty years the weather decided to spit the hook for our big weekend. A super successful Saturday gave way to a much less spectacular Sunday as the rain threatened to keep the punters away. However, nothing could dampen the enthusiasm of those who braved the conditions.
For a time on Saturday, it looked like records would tumble membership wise but by Sunday all bets were off, with sales finishing thirteen short of last years record but with eighty-seven new members the event was still hailed as a success.
Young anglers turned out in numbers again to try their hand at fishing, tiddlers were caught and battles with unseen monsters were numerous, none of our participants went away fishless and some even landed the big one with the help of our very own Whitehouse and Mortimer, Graham and Mark Davies.
All departments were kept busy with the tombola and raffle doing very well, the bring and buy sale proved to be a hit with buyers and sellers although most spent more than they made. Hungry punters were well fed at our burger bar and afters came in the shape of some fabulous cakes courtesy of Nicky Walters.
Thanks as usual to our sponsors and supporters, this year including Middy international, Potteries fly tying club, fly-ology, get hooked on fishing, Trentside tackle, Bucknall bikes and fishing tackle and the Corner Pin.
Sincere thanks also go to our superb members who gave up their time to make the event possible.
