OPEN DAY 2014
Despite being battered by hurricane Bertha, the open day and country fair went ahead as planned on a day where other events, some much more prestigious than our own were cancelled due to adverse weather conditions, as early as a week before the event it had become apparent that we would almost certainly be up against circumstances that we couldn’t control but cancelling the event was never going to be an option for the society.
All of the attractions and exhibits were in place as advertised and despite a soggy start and a certain degree of uncertainty as to wether the public would actually brave the horrendous conditions a steady stream of visitors arrived and showed their support, the conditions eased during the afternoon and a glimpse of blue skies signalled the arrival of more visitors. The membership sales team were very busy during the day and as a result the society benefitted from the addition of somewhere in the region of sixty or more new members, a number we had hoped to exceed significantly but due to the conditions were more than happy with.
The exhibitors all enjoyed the relaxed experience of the event and all expressed an interest in attending should we decide to do it again, all in all a great day was had by all involved and the society would like to thank the exhibitors and public who braved the conditions to support us and make the day such a success.
Sincere thanks go to the following members for helping to make the whole event possible; Andy Stokes, Peter Eaton, Barry Snape, Glynn Dransfield, George Burfoot, John Birks, Mike Buttery, Joanne Buttery, Dan Boulton, Dan Malbon, Lewis Millward, Oswaldis, Kyle Edwards, Kevin Greatbatch, Wayne Pearce, Ian Birchall, Paul Hewitt, Stan Birks, John Harris, Shay Whitby, Mark Lowndes, James Lowndes, Andy Bird, Laura Bird and Andy and Julie Maskery.
